Dan Winters has updated his site…

I don’t know if I am behind, or ahead, of the curve but it appears photographer Dan Winters has updated his web site. Lots of the old favorites and some images that I have not seen on his previous site.

Do not miss the sections “Friends and Neighbors” and “Dylan“. There’s some love in these images that you don’t always see in Dan’s work. As I looked through these, I didn’t feel that these images were for you, or me, or a magazine, or an exhibit. I felt Dan had kept these photographs for himself … in a shoebox in the closet.

Photographer Marc Feldman screws the pooch …

Dallas Morning News photo editor, Guy Reynolds, alleges that Feldman doctored a photo of golfer Matt Bettencourt after Bettencourt’s Reno-Tahoe Open win. For Marc Feldman, this is not the list you want to be on.

On the Road

I’ll be on the road all next week. My daughter and I will be taking a bike trip to central California, then over to the coast near Cambria, up the coast road to Big Sur, Golden Gate, Yachats, Newport. Will then take a right and head back over the Cascades to Bend, Oregon. Overall, about 1,750 miles.
Needless to say, email and phone responses may be a bit slow, but I will get to them each night.

Cigs, Suds & Stigmata

In the Indian state of Meghalaya, the government has confiscated textbooks showing pictures of Jesus Christ holding a cigarette and a can of beer. The Catholic Church has asked the government to take action against the publisher and to ban “objectionable publications” from all schools in future. I guess my only question is why would a text book publisher put beer, cigarettes… or Jesus … In a cursive handwriting text.

I kinda like the image. I’m mean, really, after a long day of feeding the thousands with loaves and fishes, who wouldn’t want a smoke and a brewski?

OctaMonster

A few months ago I purchased a 200cm soft box that I have lovingly named The OctaMonster. At over 6 feet in diameter, the thing is a beast. One of the immediate problems that I discovered was that the octa would not fit securely to the monolight. I have several of Paul Buff’s UZ1600s and the 4 prong fitting was not strong enough to hold the octa. Actually, it would hold, but a butterfly fart could knock it off. So I designed a bracket that allowed the octa to hold the light rather than the light holding the octa. Works great.

The softbox in the image is only a 32″ octa… I just didn’t want to drag the OctaMonster out of the bag. You can click on any image for a larger view.
